Come and create unique clay garden pieces to add character to your landscaping. Under the guidance of experienced potter and clay instructor, Halona Gustin, you will form clay pieces such as flowers, mushrooms, garden markers or welcome signs that can be mounted on a copper pipe or nestled into the nooks and crannies of your flower bed. This class offers something new for participants of all levels of experience. All materials included.
Stunning in Silver with Cristine Grimm

Join us in exploring Art Clay, the clay that turns to 99.9% pure silver when fired. We’ll start out small, making earrings or small pendants with basic techniques that can be used anywhere, anytime, without a kiln. Cristine Grimm, a certified Art Clay instructor, will bring all the tools and tricks necessary to create something you’ll enjoy wearing or adding to your next beading project. Cost includes silver clay, the use of all necessary tools, and a necklace and jump ring for wearing your jewelry out the door.

This is great opportunity to take a little more time to explore the art of crafting metal jewelry. Just imagine wearing one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry made by your own hands to showcase your unique personality, be it steam punk to elegant. Learn the fundamental skills of cutting, forming, texturing, and cold connecting shapes in either copper or bronze while making your own pendants and earrings. Bracelet Etching with Casey Bemis

A new class for the NCCA-Artsplace this season is a metalsmithing bracelet with jewelry artist, Casey Bemis. In this class Casey will guide students through the process of creating a design and then etching it onto a piece of copper or brass. The class will return the second session to clean, shape and add patina to their piece. Take advantage of this opportunity to experience a new jewelry making technique.
Glass on Glass Mosaic Windows with Deb Emerick

A perfect class for the summer. Get ready to capture the beauty of the sun streaming though colorful glass. Come and join mosaic artist, Deb Emerick, and transform an old window into a colorful work of art using stained glass and other materials. Deb will guide you through the process of designing your window and then implementing your design using glass cutting and mosaic skills. Bring a family member and work on a window together. You may bring your own window or you may stop in at the NCCA-Artsplace and select your window before the class sessions begin.
Needle Felting Russian Matroyshka Dolls with Olivia Johnson

Perhaps you have seen the colorful nesting dolls from Russia. This class is an introduction to the art and technique of needle felting. Through a step-by-step process students will use barbed needles to create a 4” Russian statuette from wool fibers. There will be plenty of room for creative expression. Each student will receive a kit to take with them to continue their future felting projects!
Designer Floor Quilts with Sandy Dekker

Sandy Dekker has added her own style to floor cloths by mixing her love of quilts and floor cloth design. Floor quilts are made using beautiful fabric pieces and simple painting techniques applied to linoleum and then clear coated. Glass on Glass Mosaic Vase/Candle Holder with Mary Anderson

Luminous colors infused with light can be a part of your home décor when you join glass artist Mary Anderson in making a glass on glass mosaic vase/candle holder. Participants will create a design from cut pieces of colorful stained glass and adhere it to a glass form and use grouting techniques to finish. Examples of Mary’s mosaic work and class projects on display at the NCCA-Artsplace Artist Market.
Basket Weaving – A Market Basket with Heather Fessenden

Award winning basket artist, Heather Fessenden, is offering an opportunity to learn the art and craft of basket weaving. In this class participants will learn to weave a beautiful and functional 8”x10” market basket with D handle using various reeds, and techniques such as twining and stop and start. Call a few of your friends and take this class together. Class size is limited.
Acrylic Landscape Painting Workshop with Jane Stroschin

Landscape painting requires a fundamental understanding of composition, perspective, value, color, texture as well as skillful and creative use of paint and brushes. In this workshop Jane will share her wealth of knowledge and experience as she guides students in developing their own landscape painting on canvas. Her masterful public art paintings of Michigan symbols are installed across from Fremont City Hall. Take time to study her signature painting style in these pieces and then sign up to work with her in person. Bring a lunch.
Flint-knapping with Scott Fessenden

Class Fee: $50 ($45 Members) Ages 14-Adult
Using traditional antler bone, stone and copper tools, students will finish at least three arrow heads and a knife point. Students will learn about the history of flint-knapping and the geology regarding the different types of flint and obsidian used, along with other fun survival skill tools. Must register a week in advance. Bring a lunch.
Music Bench: Canjo with Chester Winowiecki

Class Fee: $15 All ages, under 8 with adult
A canjo is a single stringed folk instrument that is constructed from a long wood neck and a can that is used as a resonator. It is held like a guitar but plays single notes making it perfect for playing a melody. In this class each student will construct their own canjo and then receive basic instruction in playing their instrument.
Journal Building Class with Whitney Korstange

Make a hand painted journal. In this two day class, paint/decorate a journal cover and learn how to case in a text block for a complete journal. Finished journal will be 6”x9”. When signing up, please indicate what type of pages you would like. Options include blank, lined, graph, address book, or a wine journal. Any last minute signups will have a blank page. Please sign up for this class by May 15.
Painting Fundamentals and Techniques; Their Application and Function in painting Landscapes Taught by Larry Blovits

Open to beginners through advanced in oil or pastel
An extensive three-day workshop stressing basic fundamentals; color identity and mixing; various techniques and procedures for both pastel and oil, and their application and usage in landscape painting. Open to beginning and advanced painters, there will be demonstrations and instruction on pertinent material throughout the workshop. Personal attention and critiques are the format for each day.
Beginner’s Digital Photography

This is a class for total beginners, designed to guide them through the process of getting to know their camera, basic universal digital camera settings, and fundamental compositional rules. Students will also learn how to share, print, and store the photos once they’ve captured them! Please bring your own fully charged digital camera, and memory card! Also bring camera manual if possible.

Don’t know an f-stop from a bus stop? Join local photographer Richard Hinton for this class where you will learn the meaning of aperture, shutter speed and ISO as well as practical advise on how to use these camera features to get more consistent result from your DSLR. The class will consist of two class room sessions and two outdoor shooting sessions which will allow you to learn technical and compositional techniques, and put them to practical use. DSLR or other interchangeable camera system required. Tripod recommended.
