From the underbrush of the rainforest to the tides of the ocean children in this class will explore the colors, textures and patterns of the animal kingdom through a sampling of art mediums.  Prepare to use a variety of materials such as clay, paint, printmaking and pastels.

What’s at the end of the rainbow?  An art adventure!  In this class students will learn about the color spectrum, color mixing, color families and the use of color through a sampling of art mediums such as creative painting techniques, drawing and printmaking.

Prepare to get art smart!  Students in this class will learn to use the elements of art – line, shape, color, texture, space and form – in a variety of projects including portraits, landscapes, still life’s and sculpture.

Drawing Fun-damentals – Class Fee $12.00

Students will learn about drawing the human figure starting with the skeletal structure and then drawing from a live model. Lessons about proportion, contours due to musculature and skeletal landmarks will give a better understanding of what we see and how to draw it. Directional lighting will be used to set up a lesson about light, cast shadow and bounce back light to strengthen student’s three dimensional shading skills. Discussions about gesture, contour line, subtractive drawing and mark making will also be part of this rounded life drawing experience.

Get muddy at NCCA-Artsplace! Learn how to hand build, connect, roll a slab, throw on the pottery wheel and glaze while making a variety of functional and decorative pieces of art. Students will be able to pick up their pieces the following week.

Sculpture – Thinking in 3D – Class Fee $15.00

Welcome to the third dimension.  In this class students should be prepared to construct sculptures from a variety of materials such as wood, wire, clay, recycled materials, papier mache and more. Students will also learn about the different types of sculpture and view some well known sculpted pieces.

Modern Painting – Class Fee $12.00

This class is for he serious art student! Painting has evolved and truly diversified since the days of Rembrandt. Students will study four different artists and painting movements developed over the last 100 years: Monet-Impressionism, Pollack-Action Painting/Abstract Expressionism, Piet Mondrian- DeStijl/Bauhaus, and Pablo Picasso-Cubism. There is a fun focus on color, and breaking free of tradition to try something bold and new.

Digital Photography – Class Fee $15.00

June 25 – 27    3:30 – 5:30 p.m.    Ages 8-13

July 8 – 10    10:00 – 12:00 p.m.    Ages 8-13

Experienced Photographer Paul Petersen will guide students through all of the workings of their digital cameras and then take students outdoors to try some of their different camera settings. The second day they will focus on macro settings and the rule of thirds. The final day will be spent in a class critique of their work and learning how to mat their best photograph.

Printmaking – Ink It Up! – Class Fee $15.00

What do you get when you combine colorful inks, linoleum, cardboard and foam?  Prints!!  This class is the exploration of the art of making colorful images through the use of simple materials.

Batik – Class Fee $15.00

Looking for a unique summer experience? Batik is the art of using melted wax to draw designs onto fabric and then adding vivid color with dyes.

South of the Border – Class Fee $12.00

Pack your bags and passports for a journey south of the U.S. border to the lands of the Aztecs, sun sculptures and the Amazon rainforest. Travelers in this class will use paint, clay and many more exciting materials to capture these cultures.

Wearable Art – Class Fee $15.00

Own your style with the unique accessories made in this class. Learn to create a variety of wearable art items including fused glass necklace and earrings, funky felt bead bracelets, t-shirt necklaces, pop can flower jewelry and burnished aluminum pins.

Believe It or Not – Class Fee $15.00

We have searched high and low for the most unusual art materials.  In this class only the bravest of students will have the opportunity to create truly amazing art pieces with the most unexpected materials. Check out the possibilities of paper clay, printmaking on gelatin and creating impressive sculptures from nylons.
